Louie Lu, DAIM, L.Ac., MSAOM, Dipl. O.M., is a licensed acupuncturist in the State of California and a Diplomate in Oriental Medicine certified by the NCCAOM, now the NCBAHM. He founded RUYI Acupuncture Integrative Medicine Clinic in Arcadia in 2019 and is the clinic's only practitioner.
Every patient is seen, treated, and followed by him personally.
Ruyi (如意) is a curved ceremonial scepter in Chinese Buddhism and a talisman of good fortune in Chinese folklore. The word itself means "according to one's wishes."
Training
Dr. Lu began studying acupuncture in 2014. He earned a Master of Science in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine in 2018 and a Doctorate in Acupuncture and Integrative Medicine in 2021, both from Alhambra Medical University. He is a council member of the World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies.
Teaching
Dr. Lu is a faculty member at Alhambra Medical University, teaching two courses in both the English and Chinese sections: Integrative Application Pain Management, a doctoral-level course, and Clinical Management in the master's program. Pain is the most common reason patients come to RUYI, and teaching the doctoral pain-management course keeps that part of the practice under constant review.
How Treatment Works Here
Dr. Lu practices primarily in the Balance Method developed by Dr. Richard Teh-Fu Tan, which treats through the channels rather than at the site of the pain. During a pain treatment, you will be asked to move the affected area while the needles are in. Treatments run 40 minutes with the needles retained, and most patients fall asleep. Chinese herbal formulas, dispensed as granules and powders, are prescribed alongside acupuncture where they help, so that treatment continues between visits.
Care at RUYI is designed to work alongside the medical care a patient is already receiving.
Before Acupuncture
Dr. Lu spent over 20 years in the beauty industry before training as an acupuncturist. That background is where the clinic's cosmetic acupuncture work comes from: facial anatomy and skin, approached through acupuncture.
Practical Details
Consultations are available in English and Chinese. RUYI accepts insurance, workers' compensation, personal injury, VA Community Care, and HSA/FSA. The clinic is open seven days a week, by appointment only.

Reviews
Your review matters. It helps the next patient decide, and it tells me what to do better.
